There's something rather familiar about Barfly, and it's not just the way that their music screams their influences. Talking With The Middleman does a little more than tip it's hat to Coldplay (the piano intro positively cleans their boots with it's tongue). Don't Make Me Wait is 'Jealous Guy' by Roxy Music done by The La's. Shelter is not quite so obvious - though the rest of their record collection reads singer-songwriters and mellow bands like Crowded House and Tim Buckley. It's generic, it's cheesy, but by Hovis it's good. Now go away and write your own songs before your moniker runs away with you.
