Oceansize
"The White EP"
review by Ruth
Track Listing:
Amputee
Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs
Saturday Morning Breakfast Show
(Available on CD and cassette)
Hot on the heels of last year's Amputee EP (reviewed in our last issue) comes
this stop-gap in the form of
this collection of previously laid down tracks and live recordings. As well as
the gorgeous envelopping
tidal wave of Amputee with it's apocalyptic overtones, and the sinister
leviathan of Saturday Morning
Breakfast Show, we get Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs and it's subtle
build-up from tense languidity,
yet with disturbing perception shifting qualities and urban ghost echoic
sampling. The recording of Size
Of An Ocean is slightly dodgy, but still manages to capture the wild mood swings
between screaming guitar
and almost tropical guitar ripples. Surely it's only a matter of time before
Oceansize start making inroads
on the National music scene. Or it least it had better be, because at the rate
they're growing soon there
just won't be enough room in Manchester to hold them.
