Preston School of Industry
"Falling Away" CD1
(Domino)

Ruth

When Pavement split, it was Stephen Malkmus who made the decision. Yet Spiral Stairs doesn't seem to be pining for his former band at all. Preston School Of Industry's new single is closer to evoking the anthem-like tendencies of Crowded House, but mixed with the same sense of humour as (Elephant Six collective band) Elf Power. An absolutely gorgeous summer song - just what we need with all these new semester blues.

After four years of waiting Seafood are ready to make a real assault on the charts, and this is their claryon call. A vicious sonic assault, David Line screaming over pounding basslines, staccatto drumming and unrelenting guitar thrashing. If this is just the first wave of attack then they've already won the battle.

Seafood's second single from their new album has an intensity only rivalled this year by My Vitriol's 'Always:Your Way'. David Line's alluring voice seductively soars over jagged peaks of roaring guitar. Another flawless release from the album which will break them. I promise.
