Living With Eating DisordersMore Than This

N/A

I recently read a review of this demo on someone’s Live Journal page, where the writer was virtually climaxing as he/she wrote, the finished review turning out more like poetry than a critical appreciation of the CD. Now that I’ve finally got a copy, it’s not hard to see why.

Whereas most demos I seem to get are staright ahead pub rock/Green Day punk stuff, LWEd provide a refreshing change with their More Than This demo. Quite apart from the fact it’s one of the most gorgeously produced demos I’ve seen in a while (Blackened Heart Syndrome, take note please), LWED’s latest release is the sexiest thing to enter my DVD player in a long time, thanks in no small part to the alluring vocals of lead chanteuse Andrea. This woman’s voice is pure liquid silver, going from Stina Nordenstam like innocence to darker Bjork-style sentiments; via Portishead like note caressing. On ‘Lullaby’ it sends chills down your spine, playing over the seductive urbanised guitar sounds that make this Portishead for the post-Western generation. 'Envy' plays like a dark seductive nursery rhyme, suddenly exploding into Bjork like emotings, before settling down into the weird spaced out 'Fading Softly'.

After the initial mp3s I snaffled off t’internet, I wasn’t too sure how LWED would work. Now I can’t wait to hear more. It's better than chocolate. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the next Portishead. Stunning.
