Supply and Depend - Warship WarshipSupply and Depend

Vagrant/Hassle

There are countless tales of leading bands splitting and its chief members failing to scale anywhere near the same heights again. Straight from the off by way of the bruising metallic hardcore of 'Toil' and 'Profit Over People', thankfully Warship proceed to piss all over such notions with their awesome debut offering Supply and Depend.

Emerging surprisingly swiftly after From Autumn to Ashes' break up in June, Supply and Depend isn't a huge sonic departure for Messrs Francis Mark and Rob Lauritsen, however it could well be the best thing either of the New York-based duo have ever put their name to. Following the aforementioned frantic opening salvos, 'Wounded Paw' slows down the pace to great effect, the excellent 'We've Never Been Equal' sounds like it could have been cherry picked from Every Time I Die's acclaimed The Big Dirty long-player, while the brutal 'The Waiting List' is just plain fantastic.

Perhaps Supply and Depend greatest strength though is that it's a record that sounds so organic, with tracks masterful flowing into each other, take the subdued quiet/loud dynamics that light up 'Fetus Flytrap' and 'Lousy Horoscope', the latter of which is movingly delivered tribute from Mark to departed friends.

A question mark may hang over the future of Warship as to whether they will ever be a full time concern, but as the vocalist screams during opener 'Toil', "Music sparked a fire and it burns in me forever", Supply and Depend is concrete evidence that Mark and Lauritsen's best days are far from behind them.
