On Histories of Rosenberg – S/T EP
Function Records
As opening track 'I Am Awake' kicks off unassumingly in an understated haze of delay-drenched guitar work, it's difficult to shake the feeling we're about to experience more meandering, unimaginative post-rock in the same vein of countless others currently saturating the scene. Fortunately, some well-placed bells, impressive close harmonies and one superbly-executed crescendo later, all those worries are scrubbed out, and it becomes apparent that On Histories of Rosenberg are an altogether more exciting proposition. It's a sense of class that runs all through this collection, with 'A Calendar Year's piano-flanked anthemics complimented neatly by the PG Lost-esque guitar lines. It's a promising offering indeed, and by the time 'Leave Us Here' abandons its marching band percussion in favour of a genuinely skyscraping finale, one can only imagine exactly how exciting OHOR can be if they have a few more tricks up their sleeve. More, please.
