As they prepare to release their debut album on their own label, rising Reading outfit 51/50s sidestep the trends on new single 'Lies', a riotous dose of straight-shooting rock 'n' roll. Owing a little to Iggy Pop's 'The Passenger's stomp-along anthemics, this is stadium-sized stuff: all tumbling riffs and monster choruses. While it's more than a little familiar in places, you'll be hard pressed to find another new band with this much raw energy. Provided they've got a few more tricks up their collective sleeve, they could go far.
